I have no idea what kind of birds these are. I see the mom fly away every time I come home, or in or out the door. This nest is just below my deck floor, I couldn't see in, but the camera could. That's how I found out there are four babies in there! Wow. I hope to identify these little guys eventually.

HOW CUTE!!! Their large size makes me think they are robins - also the roundness of the nest. If there is a perfectly round, solid hard mud bowl (covered with nest-lining fluff) between the babies and the grass-outside of the nest it is a robin's nest. Just look at those great big baby mouths! :)
tsduff, Yeah, I was thinking maybe robins, but the mother is all gray. No red, do only the males have red? I thought they all did.
Nice! As long as they not chirpin' like crazy at 6am outside your bedroom window!
Barn Swallows...I'm betting...we have them all over our complex. They especially love to build nests in woodpecker holes...which we also have. Dang birds...lol
HOW EXCITING!!!! Don't forget they don't take long before fledged - so you don't miss the big event :))
Fantastic photo!
Your photo MOVES!!! There's a finger, feather variations, and EVERYTHING!!!
Awww so cute. Isn't it amazing that they pretend to be invisible when threatened. I had a bunch in a hanging basket on the verandah and as I'd approach, they'd open their mouths until they realised it wasn't mum then they'd just hunker down with a 'you can't see me' expression. Do birds have expressions?
quickroute, fortunately my bedroom is at the other end of the house. I haven't heard much noise from them yet.
theweyrd1, definitely not swallows, the mom is big, and not a swallow. I think robins might be right.
anon, yes, it is a movie. Glad you figured that out! hahahaa I will keep my eyes peeled for the day they leave the nest!
baino, these guys don't duck and hide, but they freeze right where they are, and won't move, you saw when I touched their beaks they just play dead or something. It's so weird.
I don't know what they are but they are cute! I just hope a cat doesn't find them before they are big enough to fly away.Is it normal for birds to build their nests in someplace other than trees?
yenbar, Yes it is normal. I see this a lot. No cat could get to them, they are very high, the deck is on the second floor.
RM: Smart birds. If I needed a safe place, I'd choose your house too.
CJ
Nests are so old school. Our birds are building condos...
cj, smart girl!
ve, I had no doubt your birds would be cooler than mine! LOL
Nice synchronicty - I ust posted a picture of a baby bird (and mother bird) in a nest, and then came over here. (Female robins have muted versions of the male's colors, but definitely an orangey breast.)
Ohhhhhhh they are CUTE,that's what they are.
So adorable!
Well, what are you waiting for? Go get them some worms. NOW.
