A Tribute to George

George Carlin has been a favorite of mine for as long as I have been able to stand still long enough to watch stand up, and before, when people bought comedy LPs and George did the "Hippy Dippy Weather Man". I have always enjoyed his unique insights and word play. There is a lot of stuff flying around on the Internet now that he has passed. I chose this one, short and sweet to post here in tribute to a life well lived. Somewhere there is a dealer with way too much pot on his hands.

George Carlin's Views on Aging :

Do you realise that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about ageing that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?' 'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life. . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.

But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'

May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!

I must say, many is the time when I feel like I am 100 instead of 46.
You don't fully appreciate someone until they are gone sometimes and George is one of those people. From his acting roles to his stand-up he always kept me entertained.

Fun reading Red Mojo! Apart from George not making it to hundred and a half.

He certainly held a captive audience. There's a lot of stuff bouncing around on youtube now that I'd never seen. He was a one of a kind!

quickroute, Through the years he put out a LOT of material. One of the things I really liked about George was that he kept it fresh.

wieneke, Thanks, I don't mind at all. My blog is your blog! :)

My dad said he was going to live to 100. I believed him, but then he didn't.

Regarding George...what were those 7 dirty words you can't say on TV...that you can now?

My Sweetie has been playing George Carlin YouTubes non-stop today... my ears are pitch red from listening to all those *&@$#!)^(%$@* words. He was pretty gritty. My favorite appearance of his was when he was mistaken for the mad bomber in "Car Wash".

That's a good bit. One of my favorite George Carlin bits is about lip mouthing when you're on camera but not the center of attention and saying "I hope all you f**king lip readers are watching..."

George Carlin, in his own way, was a great man. This world needs more like him.

I love this, and I already miss George Carlin.

When my beloved friend Adolf TURNED 104, he decided to tell people that he was in his 105th year because it was "so much more impressive."

And I've never stopped noting my half-year marks. Does that make me immature or merely pedantic?
