First Snow

A treeGoldfinches

A titmouse on the birdbath heater, a snow bird, and a dove.
Another titmouse, and a chickadee.
I woke this morning when my clock radio shattered the silence with of all things, Christmas music! Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but this annoyingly early start can make even me, sick of it before it even gets here. I looked up from my warm bed, the house is cold in the morning, and saw snow covering the skylight. Oh bother, I'm really not ready for this. I am working in my workshop today, so I don't need to go anywhere but if I did have to, it would not bode well for me. I haven't yet added hundreds of pounds to the bed of my truck for traction. Of course it's four wheel drive, but it still needs weight in the back. This is something I left off of my earlier post of ways I'd rather not spend my time. Anyhoo, although I bitch and moan about the snow, it is quite beautiful and the birds don't seem to mind it at all. These are a few of the birds in my backyard this morning.

of course you know i'm not ready for the snow either. we should be, rm, but we both know how intoxicating this blue sky and warm november weather has been.

your pix are great. enjoy the day. i'm spending it in much the same way, working on colors and words.

I just walked outside to go get some lunch and noticed how cold it is today. It's windy , so that puts a chill in the air, making it feel like it's, oh, maybe low-60's. Brrr! I might have to put on long pants tonight when I go to rowing practice. I keep checking to see if there's enough snow up in the mountains to allow me to go snowshoeing. Doncha just love winter?

OK enough gloating. The pictures are lovely.

kj, Thanks. I went to your blog and saw you did a "first snow" blog too. Funny.

Beeper, Nice to hear from you. Low 60's my goodness, that's terrible! I'm going to work up a tear for you. Check back tomorrow, and I'll let you know if I've managed it yet.

I LOVE your bird photographs, even though the close-up of your Goldfinches look like a tree Hhehheee. Does the first snow mark the beginning of the Holiday Season there - ignoring no one being ready ...?

Anon, I checked it out, you're right! The close up of the goldfinches IS a tree. WTF?
The Christmas season usually starts the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest, but the stores and radio stations have been shoving down our throats since the beginning of November. That's nuts!

Oh...I'm jealous. It's beautiful (from the inside of a warm house!)

In your efforts to squeeze out a tear for me and my terrible weather (do I see a crocodile over in the corner?), I hope you generated another degree or two of body heat to keep you warm. You know that was my intent in working up your ire, right?

rachel, Thanks. I've been to Spokane several times. I think even in the snow, but definately in the FOG! :)

Charlotta-love,I agree, it is beautiful from the comfort of your home!

Beeper, To be honest, I didn't try very hard, so no, it didn't warm me up, but thanks for making me laugh. I wish I didn't see my breath, since I'm inside!

ts duff, My best friend didn't know either, because they change color in the winter from gold to a greenish, so they look different.
