The First Post of the Year

It seems like a lot of pressure. I want to begin the year on a positive note, especially since I'm feeling so optimistic about the present year. It's just that things haven't gone so smoothly since the stroke of midnight, all the way up to, well, until now. I would certainly not throw in the towel on the entire year based on a few trying days, but I do feel I should write something new. I have been working on my reclaiming my body, and since Thanksgiving, I've been rowing for an hour almost everyday. So far it's going very well, I've lost a little over 20 pounds. I feel better, stronger, more confident, and I definitely plan to continue along this vein. This may not be new for this shiny new year, but it does allow me to enter it with optimism and excitement.

Expectations are funny things. When you have them, you can, and will be disappointed. If you can avoid them, everything good feels more like a gift. This is the approach I like to take, although I'm not always successful.

I can't help feeling like this year will be an important year in my future, but I do so knowing that I am the catalyst for whatever changes occur. I must open the door to the new, and open it often. I have to allow the flow of positive energy by pushing the negative aside to let it in. I need to give good things the opportunity to happen. With this in mind, I know I have to make some changes in the way I live. Recognizing the need for change is not the same as changing.

Here are some of the changes I plan to make.

1. I will make at least 2 new friends this year.

2. I will put myself out there more socially, even if I have to go do things alone.

3. I will join 2 new group activities.

4. I will smile and say hello to more people.

5. I will not fail to ask someone I am interested in, out for coffee or a drink.

If you have any helpful suggestions I can add to my list, please let me know.

This post seems too serious. I should say something funny like "canned pork" which Dorky Dad assures me is very funny.

WHAT????!!!!??? You've lost over 20 lbs? HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT? I'm trying to lose 50 lbs, which I put on after meeting my Sweetie after 33 years and also taking up drinking again after 26 years sober. (Hmmm, maybe I know what the matter is?) Really though, I've limited my portions, I honestly KNOW what I should and Should not eat, but still, your story amazes me! I will not go rowing , but I do have an almost 3 mile hike I could do daily which I have not utilized. Help! And, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

Oh, and what the hey = add to your suggestions, to come the hell over here when you finally come back to California! You will find a friendly, encouraging port where you can rest you bones, socialize a bit (if you don't mind a crow and a bear lol) AND laugh the time away. Good for you with the weight loss, although I'm so envious!

tsduff, I followed a diet designed to keep your metabalism in fat burning mode instead of slowing down when your food intake decreases, and it worked, plus the exercise. If you want I can email you the link to the diet. I found it on the internet. You can do it!
Thank you for the invitation. I would love to visit you when I come back to California.

Ah, a few plans for 2008. They look good. I hope you can say on 31st December: 'I did it all and it worked!'

Hmmm, all your new socialising indicates there will be less time for us ... or LOTS of new news! Heeheee!!

wieneke, I hope it all works! I appreciate your visit!

anon, I thought about that...I think I can do it all! Ha, maybe I'll just have to stop working to fit it all in.

I'm still impressed with the rowing thing. That's a very specific list - 2 friends, 2 n32 activities... Good luck with it all!

PS: Almost every photo taken of me on New Years was in the same pose as those two girls in your photo! HAHA!!

I've been working on a body reclamation project too-biking, water aerobic and some weights.

I think if you achieve all your goals, or even some of them, you'll have an awesome 2008, and I hope that you do.

Another funny term is "Deviled Ham".

cs, I am really enjoying the rowing, at least the feeling I get from doing it. When my butt looks as good as yours, you can be impressed! Thanks for the luck, I'm sure I'll need it.

Anon, I'm sure they are great shots of you drinking. There have to be several of me floating around in that same pose as well.

debra kay, Good luck in your effort. Don't forget to let me know how that soap works out. I hope you have a great 2008 as well. Deviled Ham is hilarious.

You lost over 20 pounds since Thanksgiving? Since THANKSGIVING???? How on EARTH DID YOU DO THAT??? Over the HOLIDAYS? Sure you rowed yourself to London and back but still ... did you lock yourself in a closet?

Way to go.

And dang right. Canned pork makes everything funnier. It's canned pork for crying out loud.

kudos for being brave enough to make some resolutions. I never do because I know they will never come true. LOL.

RM, good luck. You have the talent and guts to achieve your goals.

RED MOJO said...

DD, I didn't do it eating canned pork, that's for sure.

rachel, I don't really like resolutions, but it is a good time to think about changes you'd like to make. I think the more specific you are, and the more realistic you are, the better your chances of actually accomplishing what you set out to do.

Ces, Thank you for your vote of confidence. You already know me pretty well. Hahhaa.

So is "canned pork and beans" funnier or less funnier than just "canned pork?"

And where does Underwood Deviled Ham fit in?

You have won a 'You Make My Day' Award Red Mojo!

craig d, If you want to be funny, you've got to lose the "and beans" although, beans on their own can be funny, they do take the punch out of "canned pork". Deviled ham is canned pork's slightly less funny cousin, on the father's side, still dead pig parts, which are always good for a laugh though.

Anon, Ohmigod ohmygod, I can't believe I won a major award! I'm so happy!!! Where is the damn thing? Thank you so much! I love the name it, if I really did make someone's day, I am truly happy for that. :)
